«Sorpresa per Gue», Gedanken mit Günther
Exhibition: 08. May — 21. June 2025
The works on display span a range from poetic and performative to media-reflective video pieces. The selection from the Carola and Günther Ketterer-Ertle Collection is shaped by an impulsive curiosity and an open-minded perspective on video art—symbolic of how Günther himself always was: fast, dynamic, energetic, and always full of new ideas.

Carola Ertle and Günther Ketterer took an early interest in art and began collecting together in the 1980s. As was only to be expected, their initial focus was on German Expressionists, but then, quite logically, it was Neo-Expressionist works of the 1980s that soon found their way into the collection. While in the beginning they collected only two-dimensional works, other genres were added in the course of time: sculptures, objects, artists’ books, and since 1996, video art. Throughout their collecting practice, video art has crystallized as a central focus. In addition to this clearly defined focus, it was also friendships with artists that continuously enriched the collection. Text: Bernhard Bischoff: “Collection Carola and Günther Ketterer-Ertle” (excerpt), published in Looping Memories, 2009

This exhibition is the last one at the videokunst.ch showroom at PROGR. With the end of this exhibition, we are giving up the space after 15 years in order to focus more on selected projects and collaborations in the future. However, our video windows at Bienzgut in Bümpliz and at Houdini in Zurich will remain in place, as will the winter event series IM LOOP, which continues to take place on Thursdays at the PROGR Turnhalle.
